National pond hockey tourney in state seeking teams
Labatt Blue and USA Hockey are teaming up again to invite hundreds of “true blue” pond hockey players and fans to the Labatt Blue USAdult Pond Hockey Tournament from Feb. 16-18, 2007, in Eagle River, Wis., for a celebration of hockey in its purest form.

The second annual Labatt Blue USAdult Pond Hockey Championships will provide 80 adult amateur teams with a weekend of four-on-four, fast-paced pond hockey action. Up to 80 teams will be divided into eight no-check divisions, with USA Hockey reserving the right to place teams in the appropriate divisions.

Divisions include: Men’s Gold, Men’s Silver 21 & Over, Men’s Silver 30 & Over, Men’s Bronze 21 & Over, Men’s Bronze 30 & Over, Men’s 40 & Over Open, Women’s Open, and Novice.

Eagle River’s Dollar Lake will be transformed into a championship event site with 12 150 by 75 feet rinks, guaranteeing each team a minimum of three round-robin games and frozen pond fun. Games will include a two-minute pre-game warm-up and two 15-minute halves. Aiming for a quality hockey and social experience, the tournament will follow all USA Hockey playing rules and will be officiated by USAH officials. Players may only play on one team, and are required to follow USAH equipment recommendations.

The $360 team entry fee includes a minimum three-game pond hockey experience, commemorative hat, awards, Saturday night reception, and cold Labatt Blue refreshments. All team members must be 21 years old by tournament’s first day. The entry fee includes USA Hockey membership and its benefits and services. To register, call USA Hockey at 800-566-3288 or www.usahockey.com.
